Hassi R’Mel is in the northern part of the Algerian desert, roughly 400 km south of Algiers, and is a gas hub in Algeria on which all the pipelines collecting gas produced in the Southern fields converge and from which gas pipelines carry gas to the north. Gas production can be raised to 50 billion cubic metres per year.

The gas is used for both domestic consumption, concentrated in the belt along the coast, and exportation through underwater links to Spain and Italy and to liquefaction plants at Arzew and Skikda.

The project definitely represents a great challenge due to technical and design difficulties and its remote location, new to us. The requested construction schedule is also particularly challenging.

SCOPE OF WORK

The contract includes turnkey construction of a compression station located near Hassi R’Mel, which will serve to raise the transport capacity of the GR4.

The station consists of a filtration section for inbound gas, 4 compression trains made up of turbocharged gas of nearly 25 MW each and a metering station, plus all supporting utilities.
